In this short story, Arshi Mortuza weaves a captivating tale of suspense and intrigue with an ending that is bound to leave the reader shocked.

“There’s a baby that crawls on our bedroom ceiling,” she finally spit the words out.

“I am sorry, what?” Her husband stared baffled. His lips had curved into a smirk. She hated this — and thus elaborated:

Every night at 3 am, an infant appears. She could never make out its features in the dark, but it looked slimy and naked like a newborn. She keeps watching the infant-sized creature — unable to speak and unable to move. Her gaze fixated on its movements, and she watched until her eyelids drooped with slumber.

“It sounds like sleep paralysis,” her husband quickly concluded.
