In this short story, Nayan Marphatia narrates a gripping tale of revenge with twists and turns to leave a reader on edge of the seat.

It was a cool January morning as I enjoyed the scenic vista of Marine Drive in Mumbai. There was a nip in the air, a mild breeze and the atmosphere was serene and relaxing. It was an unusually clear day and the Azure blue sky was cloudless.  Instead of the usual hazy smog, the skyline was clearly visible and the buildings in the horizon etched out scenic, sharp rectangle shaped patterns. The calm waters of the Arabian sea were shimmering in the rising sun. I couldn’t help but smirk at the morning joggers puffing away in their morning run, whilst I wolfed down a juicy, delicious Burger. A picture-perfect setting that portended well for a new beginning in my life.

The restaurant I was seated in, had glass facades and was moderately busy. I was relishing the buffet breakfast, when I suddenly felt an ethereal presence behind me. Startled, I whirled around. There was no one and the guests at the table behind me gave a questioning look. The waiter at the corner was observing me curiously with a strange expression. I wonder what his problem was. I had not upset him in anyway. However, this was not the first time, I have had such experiences.
