Our tree stands up
the branches hold
baubles, Christmas fruit
red, blue, silver, and gold
the needles and spines
shake out the pins and needles
from having lain so supine
the tree stretches out its folded limbs
we play carols that help it extend to the stars
… towards some empyrean
