Kitaab announces India Young Author Award 2021- Online Workshop and Competition

As part of our aim to nurture the next generation of thinkers and writers across Asia, we at Kitaab are excited to announce the India Young Author Award 2021 in collaboration with Janus Education Services Pte Ltd.

This writing workshop and competition will identify the best talents that will represent India in the Asia Young Author Award (AYAA). The best stories will be submitted for the Asian Young Author Award Competition in Singapore on October 2021.  AYAA aims to recognize the most prolific budding writers in the Asian region.

India Young Author Award Online Workshop and Competition

  • Are you a teenager with between 13 to 16 years old?
  • Do you possess a good command of English?
  • Do you have passion for writing short stories of 400 to 500 words?

If yes, then we invite you to join our selection process to represent India in the Asia Young Author Award in Singapore.

All participants will join the Young Author Award Workshop coached by Ms Catherine Khoo, founder of the Unique English Classroom and creator of the Young Author Award from Singapore.  Ms. Khoo is an author, editor, lecturer, and moviemaker with more than 30 years of experience in media. She was the Editor-in-Chief of Japan Close-Up Magazine and Asia 21 Magazine. She has published two bestselling books and is the founder of Singapore’s first boutique publisher of imprints for under-18s.

Workshop dates

The Young Author Award Workshop will be conducted ONLINE (using Zoom) on July 26, 27 and 28 July from 2 pm to 4 pm (IST) by Catherine Khoo.

Workshop Agenda

Day 1 (July 26 at 2 pm): What is the Theme of My Story?
Day 2 (July 27 at 2 pm): Analysing Stories Written by winners of the Young Author Award
Day 3 (July 28 at 2 pm): Planning My Story

After the workshop:
1) All candidates will need to submit their final 1,500-word story by 31 July 2021.
2) Top 3 winners will be announced on 8 August 2021.

What will the Top 3 Winners get?

PRIZE (1) Cash 
Top winner will get INR15,000 cash to be credited to their bank account by 31 Aug 2021
Runner-up will get INR10,000 cash to be credited to their bank account by 31 Aug 2021
Second runner-up will get INR5,000 cash to be credited to their bank account by 31 Aug 2021

PRIZE (2) Personal Coaching Session
Top 3 winners will enjoy personal exclusive coaching by Ms Catherine Khoo for 30 minutes (schedule to be arranged separately). The coaching session will guide them on how to write their 5,000-word story. Their stories will be submitted to the Asia Young Author Award in Singapore for the October 2021 competition. The deadline for the submission is 31 August 2021.
