Short Story: The Bedridden by Sangeetha G

1 min read

Sangeetha G’s short story with perfect twists and surprises manages to leave the reader shocked with a brilliant climax.

It was on the fifth morning after his 75th birthday that he became bedridden. He went to bed the previous night as usual after brushing his teeth and cleaning his feet. He walked to the kitchen to fill his water jar and placed it on the bedside table before lying down on the bed.

The next morning, he woke up but continued to lie down on the bed. He missed walking five rounds around the house in the morning. He did not pick up the newspaper from the gate nor did he spend half an hour reading it before breakfast. His wife came into the room to see him lying down on the bed, gazing purposelessly at the roof, the colour of which had started peeling off due to dampness.
