In this short story, Dr. Upasana Sarma shares a moving tale with underlying themes running across nostalgia, grief, and loss of loved ones.

It was a wintry Saturday afternoon in Guwahati, Assam. Mr. Kashyap was busy whiling away time with Rio, who loved getting his favourite person’s attention now and then. It is not an everyday event. Meera observed his face with utmost interest. Since that fateful day in June last year, life hasn’t been the same for Mr.Kashyap. Nor has it been for his son Joe and Mrs Kashyap.

Meera kept her gaze towards her father and observed the grey strands of hair, now very prominently visible even from a distance.  How Meera hated seeing him like this.

The mood was sombre yet Joe seemed to be in good spirits today. Joe put down the volume of his iPad player looked at the old clock that hung in the corner of his room and called out to his mom who was in the kitchen.
