Short Story: Retired Unhurt by Vidya Gunavanthe

In this short story, Vidya Gunavanthe captures the life of a retired couple, observing how drastically it changes after retirement and needs conscious changes to thrive.

Nishi chopped the spring onion, carrots, and beans, added some peas, fried the rice, added all the vegetables, and doubled the quantity of boiled water, closing the lid of the pressure cooker. Within ten minutes the fried rice was ready.

She packed the fried rice in one of the stacked lunch boxes. She packed the mixed vegetables that she had prepared in the second box and salad in the third.

Ten minutes later, her husband Naren came to the dining table, all set to go to work. He served himself four idlis from the hot pack on the table, some sambar and chutney, and sat down to enjoy his favorite breakfast.
