In this short story, Aditi Patil shares a tender story about a pet owner and a day in their life when their pet goes missing.

Jojo was busy frolicking in the waters of the Tiau River on a sunny March afternoon when he was stopped and questioned by a Mizoram Police Officer. The river forms part of the international border between India’s Mizoram state and Myanmar. Jojo was waiting for Mary, who had instructed him to stay with the nice-looking policeman here until she returned. He found his favourite toys – water, pebbles, and a pair of shoes to chew on with a playful policeman in them. Soon Mary came running across the border and picked him up.

“Thanks for looking after him, isn’t he the most adorable puppy!” She smiled at the police officer.

“He is! But it’s time to leave now, it is no longer safe here, Mary. Your husband has been waiting I believe.”
