In this short story, Prashmita Singh narrates a powerful tale of human emotions, desires, and dreams where egos and grudges play the villain.

“Are  you  sure?” I  ask  in  my  smug  voice. I  didn’t  mean  to  intimidate  him  or  question  his  decisions,  but  I  find  him  funny,  almost  nonsensical.

He  nods.

“And  when  are  you  going  to  do  it?”

He  keeps  chewing  on  the  tip  of  the  stale  crimson  leaf,  tilts  his  head  toward  me  a  little  and  for  one  second,  I  think  he  wants  to  laugh. “That’s  nothing  to  do  with  you.” His  whiskers  dance  along  the  direction  of  the  wind  in  steady  waves.

I  scoff,  and  a  whiff  of  smoke  leaves  my  mouth. “I  would  really  like  to  say  something  so  romantic  to  stop  you  from  disappearing,  I  would,  but  you  know  we  are  so  deep  creatures  of  tragedy,  we  create  one  if  we  don’t  get  it  in  the  end. Is  that  what  you’re  trying  to  do?”
