Tamaasha Theatre is presenting a performed reading of Ladies’ Tailor in Mumbai and Pune next weekend.
A performed reading of Ladies’ Tailor by Priya Hajela will be presented in Mumbai and Pune next week by Tamaasha Theatre. The Mumbai reading will take place on May 23, 2026 at White Crow Books & Coffee, followed by a Pune performance on May 24, 2026.
Set against the upheaval of the Partition, Ladies’ Tailor traces the journey of Gurdev and his companions as they travel eastward from Pakistan in search of refuge and renewal. At once intimate and expansive, the novel explores displacement, grief, endurance, and the fragile possibilities of rebuilding a life amid historical rupture.
As Gurdev attempts to establish a new livelihood as a tailor of women’s garments, the narrative unfolds through questions of survival, love, and reinvention. Balancing romance and uncertainty with a deeply felt sense of hope, the novel captures the resilience of those forced to begin again in the aftermath of violence and loss.
The performed reading format offers audiences an opportunity to encounter the text through voice and live interpretation, foregrounding the emotional cadence and dramatic texture of Hajela’s prose.
Registration is required for both events, with details available through the organisers’ poster and registration link.
