Beaches that never end 

With broken lighthouses yearning to sing

To the sea, and cry

‘So can I,

How about you.’ It says to me. 

And silence breaks through the laces 

Of There and Hereafter,

‘Will I be able?’

And cards on the table 

Strut the plank

In a pre-meditated game of ‘Bluff.’

And all that you do 

Is hold the Aces

And look at faces 

Those stare back at you.

The call of night

Through fingers with broken nails

That leave trails

Of nail-polish

On your broken skin.

Blood and feathers 

That please and tease

Is all that you hear, 

Beside the music refusing to drown.

The King without his crown

In your hand,

The Land, the Kingdom you hold;

But the conductor from the front 

Signals with his hand
