In this short story, Venkat Raman V shares a poignant tale capturing the love between a mother and a son at different stages in life.

Sumithra was late. She had been delayed at work. It was her salary day and her boss had delayed the payment. She had missed her usual train. She set aside the amount for rent and put it in an envelope before she entered the store. She sprinted through the store and picked up groceries when she saw rice cakes on the counter. She had promised her son Lakshman a rice cake if he passed. Surprising her, he had scored his first C in the recent test. There was only one left on the counter and three people in front of her. The first two did not even look at the rice cake but the man in front of her reached for it.
