Team Kitaab reviews Instruments of Torture by Aparna Sanyal (Published by Harper Collins India, 2024) calling it a tour de force in psychological storytelling.

Instruments of Torture, a short story collection by Aparna Sanyal is an unforgettable journey into the murky depths of the human psyche. Each story takes you further into the labyrinth of the mind, exposing the hidden fears, suppressed desires, and unspoken traumas that lie beneath the surface of our everyday lives. The narratives are not just tales but intense psychological explorations that peel back the layers of human consciousness, revealing the raw, unvarnished truths about ourselves.

The black and blue cover with intricate designs captivates with its portrayal of the myriad personas residing within our minds, each possessing their own unique blend of beauty and ugliness. Author Aparna Upadhyaya Sanyal earned her MA from Kings College, London. She was awarded the 14th Beullah Rose Poetry Prize by Smartish Pace and was a finalist for the 2018 Third Coast Fiction Prize. This is her first foray into fiction.
