In this short story, Sudha Vishwanath reflects the mindset of rich people in contrast with the desires of poor children with a compelling narrative.
The crepuscular rays danced in the western sky as ten-year-old Rasha carefully walked through the muddy lanes of Idaikal village holding a bottle half filled with edible oil and a small bag with two onions, some ginger, a few chilies, and cilantro.
“Hey Rasha, what is that in your hand?” Shanmugam, his neighbour, called out to him from the tea stall he worked in.
“Amma* is going to make my favourite onion pakoras*, Maama*,” beamed the boy.
