“The idea that WSCs does research on women and women’s issues marginalises the discipline and does not take into consideration that gender and women are not synonymous.”- Dr. Panchali Ray

Team Kitaab is in conversation with Dr. Panchali Ray, co-author of Teaching/Writing Resistance: Women’s Studies in Contemporary Times (Orient Blackswan, 2024).
Dr. Panchali Ray, Associate Professor of Anthropology and Gender Studies and Associate Dean (Academics) at SIAS, Krea University, has co-edited a volume with Professor Shadab Bano (Aligarh Muslim University) titled Teaching/Writing Resistance: Women’s Studies in Contemporary Times.
This collection brings together a range of essays that critically examine gender and women’s studies as an academic discipline. The book raises vital questions about the field’s accomplishments as well as its historical limitations: Has women’s studies developed into the transformative space its founders envisioned, or is it still constrained by institutional bias and social inequality?
