Between the Lines: Dreams and the Unconscious- Surrealism, Magical Realism, and Dreamscapes in South Asian Writing

1 min read

Published every FridayBetween the Lines is a weekly column by Namrata. This week, she talks about magical realism in South Asian Writing.

She dreams of a city submerged in rain, rooftops floating like islands, windows breathing, trees whispering in languages she almost remembers. A child rows past in a tin tub, holding a lantern made from a coconut shell. She waves, and the light flickers, illuminating a face that might be hers from another time. When she wakes, the sound of dripping water lingers not from rain, but from memory.
