On that fateful evening, Geeta entered the peas field wearing a white skirt that came down to her knees, leaving her legs bare below the knees. I got a hint that Geeta would let me touch her thighs. I crawled to her and sat with my legs stretched, resting my palms on the earth. She sat on my thighs, her face under my face, and my knees folded. Her skirt had upturned and shrunk to her waist, exposing her well-rounded thighs that looked and felt like dough. I caressed her thighs and kissed her lips. She had closed her eyes and moved her fingers over my hair and eyes. What we experienced in these intimate moments was beyond expression. But, like all good things, this state of heavenly bliss was cut short when a stick suddenly landed on my back with a thud. Startled, I hurriedly stood up, only to find, to my horror, Geeta’s father standing right behind us. He slapped me and then caught Geeta by her hair before dragging her away like a log. My father soon appeared on the scene from nowhere and rained blows of cane on me. “You have lowered our prestige and tarnished the family’s image! Is this why you were born to us?” he yelled, dragging me out of the fields.
