Uma Sharma shares a personal essay on her journey as a writer and the lessons she has learnt through this.

My writer self has just turned seventeen. These seventeen years are tainted with long gaps where I’ve not written a single word. Still, this is an accomplishment! We writers are a breed of exceptional courage. The daunting idea of a stark blank screen staring at us does not faze us. This blank screen is a fire-spitting dragon that we vanquish almost every day. This dragon is relentless. It keeps appearing every now and then, especially when there is a deadline. No matter how relentless, I’ve slayed it every time it raised its grotesque head. I’ve realised once we have conquered the monster, there are other challenges we have to surmount.
