‘Poetry is a deep inner calling!’ says Pablo Neruda.

In this anthology of South Asian Women’s Poetry of Trauma in English, titled Sing, Slivered Tongue (Yoda Press, 2025), the women poets from South Asia respond to the deep inner calling that speaks out the atrocities, trauma, pain, and wounds, survival, resilience, and persistence felt by them. There is a great emotional courage in this book of thresholds and crossings of trauma, blending with the injustice and discrimination of women at large.

The anthology is edited by Lopamudra Basu and Feroza Jussawalla. Some well-known and emerging poets’ works are featured in this anthology. In their introductory essay, they mention, South Asian women’s poetry in English gives voice to trauma and loss, in order to effect change and ensure that the cries of trauma are heard. Trauma, particularly that of women, has typically been relegated to silence and oblivion.’
