Ludhiana, Punjab…

“I’m done! Am moving out of the house, and we’ll see what happens,” Rinni says.

There is a gasp from the other side of the booth, just as Rinni tells Simran and Amrit her news.

“Quiet! They will know we are listening,” a shrill voice tries to whisper, making the three friends stand up and look over the partition that separates the tables.

They find four women quietly drinking their coffees, looking sheepish now that they have been caught eavesdropping.

“Have you been listening the whole time?” Rinni demands.
