Team Kitaab is in conversation with poet Devendra Bisaria whose debut poetry collection You, and Others (Kitaab, 2021) was recently launched at Singapore Writers Festival.
Devendra is the product of a global mix of culture, tradition and thought. He started writing poetry in his mid-teens, without any formal guidance or instruction but fed rather by a voracious appetite for reading and travel. His poetic style and content were molded by the diversity of his own experiences as much as his expansive outlook on the complexities of the world, but never losing touch with its humanity.
Devendra is professionally trained as a Chartered Accountant. His career in the financial industry, across functions, businesses and geographies, has lasted almost three decades.
Apart from poetry, Devendra’s talent also includes photography. He has held several solo exhibitions in Singapore. Like his poems his technique is eclectic and outside the constraints of conventional forms and schools. His canvas is global and his palate is film. Devendra supports charities through sale of his photographs. His portfolio can be viewed at www.devendrabisaria.com.
Devendra was born in India, has lived in 7 countries and travelled to over 85. He currently lives in Singapore.
