The 7th edition of festival will see an increase in the number of science, math and technology writers: DNA

Ever wondered why there are four suits in a pack of cards? Or want to know what prime numbers have to do with Real Madrid’s footballing success? Well, writers at Jaipur Literature Festival may have just the answer this month.

To be held from January 17 to 21 at Diggi Palace Hotel, the seventh edition of the festival will see an increase in the number of science, math and technology writers appearing at the annual event. 1989 Nobel laureate in medicine, Dr Harold Varmus will discuss his recent memoir, The Art and Politics of Science.

The extensive list of speakers at the festival this year includes a motley crew of award- winning writers and academics from across the globe. From Pulitzers to Man Bookers— the “somebodies” of the art and culture world, will all be there.

Renowned brands in literature and art who have confirmed their participation include writers Jhumpa Lahiri, Jerry Pinto, Amish Tripathi; actor Rupert Everett, actor and theatre personality Irrfan Khan, and sports personality Mar Kom to name a few. Read more

Pakistan: Karachi gears up for 5th annual Karachi Literature Festival

If you are a fan of Robert Fisk’s erudition and his brusque insights on neo-imperialism, mark your calendars for the fifth edition of Karachi Literature Festival (KLF) to soak up his words of wisdom.

The best-selling author and journalist will be the keynote speaker at the inaugural day of the festival, which will be held at the Beach Luxury Hotel from February 7 till February 9. Apart from Fisk, over 100 Pakistani and 30 international writers will grace the festival, including famous historian Dr Rajmohan Gandhi, a grandson of Mahatma Gandhi. Read more

India: Young authors, audience celebrated at Panchkula Literature Festival

Inaugurated by Padma Bhushan awardee, poet and philosopher Sardar Anjum, the fest included a session on story writing by best selling authors like Faraaz Kazi and Sudeep Nagarkar and also sessions by debut writers. Upcoming authors Hardik Dhamija and Nikhil Mukhija shared their experiences and why they chose to write.

“This fest gave a platform to budding writers of the region to interact with better known names. Fresh perspectives on writing blended at one point,” said Reekrit Serai, who launched his book ‘Impulse (Short Stories)’ at the fest.
