Bookmate-StarHub launchA new social ebook reading service, Bookmate, has been launched in Singapore today. The service has been launched in collaboration with Singapore telco, StarHub.

This announcement also marks Bookmate’s first foray into Asia-Pacific.

Bookmate is a subscription based social e-reading service with offices in London, Moscow and Singapore. With more than 1.5 million active users and over 500,000 titles in 9 languages, Bookmate brings readers, authors, publishers, brands and distribution partners together.

Singapore telco StarHub has announced the beta launch of a new crowdfunding platform for the region: Crowdtivate (www.crowdtivate.com).

According to a statement from the telco, this online social launchpad is ‘aimed at helping local and Asia-based entrepreneurs and artists make their innovative ideas come true’.

Crowdtivate is an open platform for entrepreneurs and artists that will facilitate financial contributions from supporters around the region via a funding system in return for specific rewards.

Singapore telco has recently released Booktique Anthology 2013, an e-book to promote creative writing by local talents

StarHub challengeAs part of its commitment to support Singapore writers, StarHub organised the inaugural Booktique Short Fiction Challenge in July 2013, inviting aspiring writers aged 13 and above to submit their completely original short story in any genre based on the image provided here.

StarHub received more than 70 entries, from which they compiled 14 notable works in ‘Booktique Anthology 2013’.

Initial catalogue of 50 popular digital titles expected to double by first half of 2014

Following the launch of its e-bookstore ‘Booktique’ this year, StarHub is expanding its e-reading platform into the digital magazines space, the telco announced on 12 November.

Named ‘Booktique Magazines’, the service offers 50 locally-published titles covering various genres, such as automotive, business, dining, entertainment, fashion, health, parenting, news and sports. Titles include Asian Geographic, August Man, Epicure, F***, Prestige and evo Singapore as well as StarHub’s entertainment guide Telescope, which is one of the nine free titles available on Booktique Magazines.
